PM Karki, Civil Society Hold Talks on Ensuring Free and Fair Elections

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday held consultations with civil society representatives to ensure that the upcoming House of Representatives elections are conducted in a clean, fair and fear-free environment.
The meeting, held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, centred on corruption control, strengthening good governance, and safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process. Government spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel said civil society leaders urged the government to adhere to the announced election date and take decisive measures to curb corruption.
According to Minister Kharel, civil society representatives expressed their readiness to support the government in creating an environment conducive to fair elections and in addressing longstanding governance challenges. In response, Prime Minister Karki reaffirmed the government’s commitment to managing political risks, advancing administrative preparations, and maintaining regular communication with the Election Commission to enhance its effectiveness.
Civil society member Khagendra Sangraula noted that the Prime Minister responded positively to the suggestions and appeared determined to ensure elections are held as scheduled. The discussion was attended by prominent civil society figures including Indra Adhikari, Subodhraj Pyakurel, JB Bishwakarma, Stella Tamang, Vijayakant Karna, Geeta Sharma, and Dobhan Rai.
